Mourning Dove Zenaida macroura
Habitat: This species occurs in grasslands, shrublands, croplands, lowland and foothill riparian forests, ponderosa pine forests, and urban areas. It also rarely occurs in aspen forests, coniferous woodlands, forests other than ponderosa pine, and in alpine tundra. In winter they occur mostly in lowland riparian forests adjacent to cropland.
Range in Colorado: Abundant spring and fall migrant and summer resident in western valleys, mountain parks, and on eastern plains. Fairly common in foothills and lower mountains but rare in higher mountains and above timberline, occurring in late summer and fall. Rare to locally fairly common winter resident in western valleys and on eastern plains, mostly near foothills.
