Common Snipe Gallinago gallinago
Habitat: They inhabit moist areas with vegetation, such as streambanks, marshes, and wet meadows.
Range in Colorado: Spring and fall migrant throughout the state below timberline. Common winter resident in western valleys from Garfield County southward, in the San Luis Valley, and on eastern plains. Johnson and Ryder (1977) found densities to be highest on the northeastern plains, and the northwestern valleys also seem to support sizable breeding populations (Martin et al. 1974). Sightings have occurred at Lower Latham Reservoir, Weld County.
