Habitat: Habitat includes agricultural areas, both irrigated and dryland. Wheatfields are poor to fair nesting habitat, although other herbaceous vegetation is also used.
Range in Colorado: Fairly common resident in western valleys, the San Luis Valley, and on eastern plains. It is most common and widespread in eastern Colorado and rare in foothills and lower mountains. Populations have declined since the 1950s due to agricultural practices (Braun et al. 1991) and all introductions into the Gunnison Basin were unsuccessful (Hyde 1979).
