Summary: Introduced in 1949, walleye (which are actually perch, not pike) are now found in warmwater reservoirs throughout Colorado. Attaining a size of 13 pounds, the walleye's savory flesh makes it an angler's favorite. Jigs and spinners slowly cranked over riprap in the spring take walleye as will slow, deep running plugs and minnows in deep, cooler water during late summer. In Colorado, walleye are maintained by a fry stocking management program. Eggs obtained during the spring spawning period from wild fish captured in gill nets are incubated in a hatchery, reared and then stocked. Status: Warm Water Game Fish
